يهدف البرنامج الى اكتساب الطلاب و الطالبات بمجموعة من المهارات اللغوية التي تستند على فهم عميق للغة بمستوياتها المختلفة كالنحو و الصرف، وعلم الاصوات وعلم الدالة والتداولية، وعلم اللغة الاجتماعي، وتحليل الخطاب ، وغيرها . يتضمن البرنامج دراسات نظرية وعلمية تساعد الطلاب على تطوير مهارات البحث العلمي والتحليل اللغوي لمختلف انواع النصوص و البيانات مما يمكنهم من مواصلة الدراسات العليا في مرحلة الدكتوراه . كما يسعى البرنامج من خلال المشاريع البحثية والنقاشات الاكاديمية الى اعداد خريجين قادرين على خدمة مجتمعهم والمنافسة في سوق العمل في وظائف في مجالات مختلفة مثل التعليم ، والصحافة، وصناعة الاعلانات ،و الإدارة ، والتسويق ، والاعمال ، وغيرها .
شروط القبول
- أن يكون المتقدم حاصلاً على درجة البكالوريوس أو ما يعادلها من أي جامعة معترف بها من قبل وزارة التعليم سواء من داخل المملكة أو من خارجها بمعدل (3,25) من (5) أو ما يعادلها.
- الحصول على درجة لا تقل عن 5 في اختبار IELTS أو ما يعادلها من اختبارات اللغة الإنجليزية المعتمدة.
- اجتياز المقابلة الشخصية التي يعقدها القسم.
- ألا تقل درجة اختبار القدرات العامة للجامعيين عن 60 درجة.

تزويد الطلاب بالمواضيع الرئيسية ومبادئ ومساهمات الأساليب الأساسية في البحث اللغوي في مجال اللغة الإنجليزية وتطبيقاتها. [2] -المحتوى: يهدف هذا المقرر إلى تزويد الطلاب بالمهارات الأساسية اللازمة لإجراء المشروعات البحثية في مجال الدراسات اللغوية بصفة عامة، والدراسات اللغوية التطبيقية بصفة خاصة. ويتناول المقرر موضوعات عدة من بينها المقارنة بين منهجيات البحث المختلفة في مجالات اللغويات النظرية والتطبيقية، وتقييم قابلية تطبيق طرائق ومنهجيات البحث المختلفة على ظاهرة أو ظواهر ما، وعملية جمع البيانات ووصفها واستعراض النتائج، وتصميم الأبحاث التجريبية ومعالجة البيانات والتحليل الإحصائي، وممارسة أخلاقيات البحث، واستخدام البرمجيات في إجراء البحوث في الدراسات اللغوية واللغويات التطبيقية. [1]. Objective(s): The main objective of the course is to emphasize how syntactic rules, and syntactic operations can potentially alter the word and clause structures. [2]. Content: The present course introduces recent theoretical approaches to English syntax, both formal and functional, with a focus on transformational syntax and the X-bar theory as well as the grammatical theory of Functional Grammar (FG). In transformational syntax, the course seeks to stress how phrase structure grammar needs to be enriched by a transformational grammar, with syntactic rules and syntactic operations potentially altering the based structures. Further, with the X-bar theory of syntax, the course elucidates how English phrases may contain specific intermediate constituents projected from a head X and in what way such a system of projected constituency may be common to more than one syntactic category. The course proceeds with the FG as a syntactic model that presents the lexico-grammatical stratum as a systematic way of understanding the word structuring and patterning of the clause as a syntactic unit and the text as a semantic unit in English. This is feasible in the light of the fact that the structure of English clause is semantically underlain by three meta-functions of language in general: ideational, interpersonal, and textual. [3]. [1]. Objective) s(: The main objective of the course is to introduce students to the lexical, compositional, cognitive and semiotic aspects of meaning. [2]. Content: This is an advanced course in semantics intended for postgraduate students and aimed at introducing those students to the lexical, compositional, cognitive and semiotic aspects of linguistic meaning. In this course, students investigate the interface between lexicology and semantics (lexical and semantic meaning), syntax and semantics (sentence structure and sentence meaning), cognitive science and semantics (cognition and meaning), and semiotics and semantics (sign and meaning). The topics include, but are not limited to, signification, semantic fields, lexical-semantic relations, mental representations, semantic roles, compositionality, indexicality, modality, evidentiality, and eventuality. Throughout the course, students are trained in the tools and techniques of semantic analysis to bridge the gap between semantic theory and practice. [1]. Objective) s(: To provide students with phonologically oriented key principles and analytic toolkit whereby they can analyze spoken data. [2]. Content: This course introduces students to the theory and practice of phonology in terms of how sounds are patterned in English (and potentially in other languages) and how such patterns can be represented and explained at the suprasegmental level. This will be operationalized by reviewing the rule-based approach that covers the psychological reality of the phoneme, productivity of patterns, and interactions with phonetics, morphology and syntax. The course will then progress to the constraint-based approach, with a view to presenting analyses of sentence-stress patterns, syllabification, rhythmic division, and intonation contours. In this respect, there will be some space for the question as to what native speakers know about the well-formedness of a phonological string. Other important topics in phonological theory will be covered such as metrical and prosodic structure, connected-speech features, and phonological domains. Finally, these topics are put to phonological analysis where students are geared towards dealing with different sets of linguistic data. [3]. [1]. Objective) s (: To provide students with the pragmatically oriented key issues, principles, and analytic toolkit whereby they can analyze both spoken and written discourse types. [2]. Content: This course is an incorporation of two major interconnected disciplines of linguistics, namely, pragmatics and discourse analysis. It is designed to develop students’ competence and understanding of key theories and concepts related to these two disciplines. It presents widely used approaches to the study of discourse and equips students with linguistic tools and analytical strategies to critically examine a broad range of spoken and written texts and discourses from different genres and in various socio-cultural contexts. It also enhances students’ understanding of discourse functions, structures and how discourse is used to reproduce social realities, social identities, embedded ideologies and attitudes by various means (lexical, grammatical, semantic, and pragmatic). The course intensively focuses on the study of socially situated language uses or language applications in situational contexts or the meaning produced by language users and interpreters, including deictics, inferences, implicatures, speech acts, shared knowledge, and politeness. This course also provides students with a linguistic toolkit to conduct original research in the real world and everyday life. The modules of this course provide students with the competence to evaluate their research in relation to common existing practices of empirical value. [3]. Objective) s (: The main objective of the course is to provide a forum for students to discuss and generate ideas on academic issues and topics that are related to the area of (theoretical and applied) linguistics. Therefore, students will be capable of writing their MA Research Projects. [2]. Content This amounts to a forum for students to discuss and generate ideas on academic issues and topics that are related to the area of (theoretical and applied) linguistics. The forum operates procedurally with the students conducting an in-depth study of a research topic of their own choice in the same area of knowledge and then discussing problems with experts in the field. Thereafter, the students should work in discussion groups so that they can find solutions to those problems based on the expert consultation they receive and the group discussion they engage in. In the research seminar, the students are given the chance to integrate their knowledge, skills, and the practical experience they gained in the program. [3]. توصيف المقرر | ]1[. الأهداف: تزويد الطلاب بالقضايا الأساسية والمبادئ وأدوات التحليل الموجهة نحو اللغويات الدقيقة التي تمكنهم من تحليل تركيب الجمل عبر لغات العالم. ]2[. المحتوى: يحتوي المقرر الدراسي الحالي على المبادئ اللغوية التي تربط الفروع المتخصصة لعلم اللغة من فونولوجيا وصرف ونحو ودلالة على نحو تكاملي بين الأصوات وتوزيعها المقطعي والبناء الداخلي للكلمات الإنجليزية من ناحية وبنية الجملة الإنجليزية ودلالات ألفاظها وعباراتها من ناحية أخرى. وبهذا يتضمن المقرر دراسة مكثفة لنقاط الالتقاء الشكلية والوظيفية بين العلوم المكونة للغة الإنجليزية كظاهرة بشرية ذات أنماط متداخلة فيما بينها في أنساق منتظمة الشكل (صوتياً ولفظياً) ومرتبطة بمعان (نحوياً ودلالياً). ومن ثم يرتكز المحتوى الدراسي لهذا المقرر على المنهج التكاملي الذي يجمع بين بنية اللغة ومعانيها، وهذا ما يجعل دراسة المفاهيم المركبة في علم اللغة المصغر أساساً معرفياً في البرنامج الحالي، ولاسيما مفهومي المورفوفونيمات والدلالة النحوية. فيما يخص المفهوم الأول (المورفوفونيمات)، تبرز الدراسة النظرية والتطبيقية التأثير والتأثر اللغوي الكامن في العلاقات بين علمي الفونولوجيا والصرف على مستوى اللفظة الإنجليزية، أما المفهوم الثاني (الدلالة النحوية) فيعد بمثابة دراسة نظرية وتطبيقية لطبيعة التداخل الأصيل بين ترتيب أجزاء الكلام في الجملة الإنجليزية وأبعادها الدلالية على مستوى معاني والعبارات والجمل. ]3[. وسائل التقويم: المناقشات، الواجبات، العروض، الامتحانات | ||||||||||||

Content The present course involves the linguistic principles that integrate the microbranches of linguistics: phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics. This takes the two-way fashion of presenting the phonology-morphology interface on the one hand and that of syntax and semantics on the other. As such, the course is intended to focus on all potential linguistic interrelations holding between such microbranches in a way that yields the hybrid micro-fields of morpho-phonemics and syntactico-semantics.
