Establishment of the Office:
Based on Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University's keenness to support scientific research and enhance the knowledge industry, the Intellectual Property Office was established to be an integrated incubator that provides all means of support to inventors and innovators. Intellectual property is one of the basic pillars of creativity and innovation, which represents the distinctive and authentic creations of the human mind. It is legally protected through patents, copyrights and trademarks, which guarantees innovators and inventors their moral and material rights from their creations and innovations. The university seeks, through the office, to enhance its position as a center for creativity and innovation, and to contribute to achieving sustainable knowledge development and protecting and registering patents, marketing them and transforming them into value-added products, in accordance with the aspirations and goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
Office objectives:
- Providing appropriate facilities to encourage inventors to expedite the request to register their inventions through easy and facilitated procedures.
- Protecting and consolidating intellectual property rights inside and outside the university
- Contributing to the transfer of technology, its localization, and its local development, and building the knowledge economy in the Kingdom in accordance with Vision 2030.
- Working to enhance respect for intellectual property rights inside and outside the university, and proposing the necessary policies and procedures for that.
- Spreading the culture of innovation and invention inside and outside the university, and working to build a generation of researchers and inventors in various scientific and technical fields.
The role of the office:
- Seeking to protect and document intellectual property rights, and following up on the procedures and financial obligations related to them in accordance with the provisions of the university's regulations for intellectual property and technology transfer
- Conducting analytical studies of inventions submitted for deposit and licensing
- Depositing patent examination forms
- Providing consultations and technical support to inventors
- Organizing educational courses and training workshops in the field of intellectual property and innovation.
- Managing issues related to the university's intellectual property.
Steps to request registration and deposit of a patent:
- Filling out the disclosure form by the innovator, including (title of the innovation, information about the innovator/innovators, description of the innovation and information about it) - and the form is added -
- The application is subject to initial review by the office before filing it with the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, including searching previous inventions and verifying ownership of the invention and its compliance with the conditions for registration
- The innovator is informed of the results of the initial review to complete the notes, if any, and if the innovation matches the registration criteria, the application is filed with the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property
- If the application passes the formal conditions and the application is initially accepted by the Intellectual Property Authority, the application is presented to the committee, and if it approves, the deposit bonus is paid to the innovator.
- The office follows up on the progress of the application with the authority directly until the final decision is issued.
- The innovator is notified of the final decision regarding the registration of the ownership of the innovation
- The innovator is paid a reward for obtaining a patent protection document for the innovation as stated in the Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Regulations at the University
- The innovation can be registered with the property preservation authorities in one or more other geographical areas that the office deems important to register it in after the recommendation of the Intellectual Property Committee, and the innovator completes the required forms with the assistance of the office.

From outside the university: Individuals and institutions associated with partnerships with the university. And legal entities with common interests with the university.
