Introducing the committee:
A committee concerned with ensuring the moral integrity of the research tools that are applied at Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University or conducted by one of its employees, and observing human privacy and rights, as well as animal rights and their welfare.
The objectives of the committee:
1. Building a scientific research system with ethical responsibilities represented in the values of honesty, research integrity, fairness, equality and objectivity.
2. Enhancing transparency in the field of scientific research and its outputs among researchers inside and outside the university
3. Enhancing confidence in the outputs of scientific research at the university by introducing regulations that contribute to the governance of the ethical aspects of scientific research in accordance with local and international laws and standards.
4. Adjusting the work environment in research projects to make it morally responsible and accountable with regard both to the subjects and samples under study and application, conducting research, and the disciplined personal behavior of all who participate in scientific research at the university
The tasks of the Committee:
_ Evaluating the research tools presented to it by researchers in all colleges in terms of their compatibility with the applicable regulations and ethical laws, through one of the following two committees:
a. The Humanities Committee:
i. The committee is concerned with research in humanities presented by faculty members, employees, or graduate students affiliated with scientific colleges, humanities colleges, and community colleges, as well as student research presented in forums and scientific competitions inside or outside the university.
ii. The committee shall ensure the safety of the research tools of the participants in accordance with the established procedures, through:
1. Evaluating the potential risks of experimental research on the participants and ensuring the safety of the remedial or educational procedures used.
2. Evaluating the procedures used to maintain the confidentiality of participants information.
3. Ensuring that the sample or their guardians agree if the participants are minors, or suffer from mental or psychological disabilities or disorders before participating in the research
b. Health and Applied Committee:
i. The committee is concerned with research related to gathering medical data about humans and animals, or applying psychological tests for medical purposes.
ii. The committee shall ensure the safety of the research tools of the participants in accordance with the established procedures, through:
1. Ensuring that researchers adhere to regulations that protect the rights and safety of patients and volunteers in research, and reduce physical, psychological, financial, and social damage that may arise from the research.
2. Ensuring that correct patient and parent consent procedures to participate in the research are observed.
3. Spreading ethical culture in scientific research, especially the commitment to human and animal protection in accordance with the regulations of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
4. Monitoring the implementation of the research presented, and applying the ethical standards and principles of biomedical and medical research.
5. Coordinating with the National Committee for Bioethics Ethics at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology.
_ Issuing certificates of approval to apply research tools approved by the committees.
_ Coordinating with the Standing Committee for Bioethics in the event of a need to record research that has been approved for conducting to the National Committee for Bioethics in the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology.
Terms and Conditions:
All university employees, including faculty members, employees, graduate students, and students wishing to conduct scientific research, must obtain the approval of the committee before applying the research tools when there is a human or animal sample in the research, or when they want to access information of a secret nature that pertains to The target sample, including scientific and experimental and non-experimental research and funded and unfunded research.
How to apply:
1. The principal investigator fills out one of the following forms:
A) Form No. 1 for application to the Health Committee.
B) Form No. 2 for application to the Humanities Committee.
2. The committee reviews the application and contacts the researcher if there is a need to obtain additional information.
3. The committee shall decide whether or not to approve the research
4. The principal investigator shall be notified of a copy of the decision.
