Research and development are among the important elements in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to achieve strategic goals. One of the most important goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 is to develop its global competitive capabilities by increasing its capacity in the field of scientific research and development. This is done by supporting high-quality research across the Kingdom’s universities and national industries, and stimulating the production of knowledge, social and economic development, and the participation of the private sector. In its effort to support research and development in the Kingdom by supporting universities and cooperating with other partners in the research and development system, the Ministry of Education, represented by the Research and Innovation Agency, has approved an institutional financing program to support research and development in Saudi universities.

In order to develop research, development and innovation at Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University in Al Kharj, and line with the university’s research and development priorities, its real potential, and research identity, the Deanship of Scientific Research has established the following research priorities:
Vision:
Producing distinguished research that serves the community and contributes to moving the Saudi economy towards sustainable future economies through the creation of an effective and productive research environment, the efficient use of resources and technologies, and the activation of international cooperation.
Mission:
Expanding and strengthening the research base by focusing on important advanced technologies in the economic and industrial sectors in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and directing resources towards the research areas that the nation needs to reach the desired goal of building a knowledge economy.
Objectives:
- Produce ground-breaking, excellent research in the branches of strategic knowledge.
- Enhance the research capabilities and infrastructure needed to lead regionally and internationally in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and energy.
- Expanding the scope of research partnerships to help solve complex issues facing Saudi society.
Research funding mechanism:
Applications for funding submitted by researchers at Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University are approved after a committee formed by the deanship decides that they meet the requirements.
Amount of support:
The amount of funding varies according to the research priority, research activity, and expected research outputs of the project, and the amount of support may reach up to 250,000 Saudi riyals.
