Establishment of the Intellectual Property Office:
|
Driven by Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University’s commitment to supporting scientific research and promoting knowledge creation, the Intellectual Property Office was established to serve as an integrated incubator offering comprehensive support to inventors and innovators. Intellectual property is one of the fundamental pillars of creativity and innovation, representing the unique and original creations of the human mind. It is protected by law through patents, copyrights, and trademarks, ensuring that creators and inventors retain both their moral and material rights over their innovations and creations. Through this office, the university aims to strengthen its position as a center for creativity and innovation, contribute to sustainable knowledge development, protect and register patents, and facilitate their commercialization and transformation into value-added products, in line with the aspirations and goals of Saudi Vision 2030.

Office Objectives:
|
- Provide appropriate facilities to encourage inventors to expedite the registration of their inventions through simple and streamlined procedures.
- Protect and strengthen intellectual property rights both within and outside the university.
- Contribute to the transfer, localization, and local development of technology, and build a knowledge-based economy in the Kingdom in line with Vision 2030.
- Work to promote respect for intellectual property rights inside and outside the university, and propose the necessary policies and procedures to achieve this.
- Spread the culture of innovation and invention within and beyond the university, and work to build a new generation of researchers and inventors in various scientific and technical fields.

Office Role:
|
- Strive to protect and document intellectual property rights, and follow up on procedures and financial obligations related to them in accordance with the provisions of the university's intellectual property and technology transfer regulations.
- Conduct analytical studies of inventions submitted for filing and licensing.
- File patent examination models.
- Provide consultation and technical support to inventors.
- Promote the culture of innovation and invention within the university through educational courses and training workshops in intellectual property and innovation.
- Manage cases related to the university's intellectual property.

Steps for Patent Filing Process:
|
- The innovator fills out the disclosure form, which includes (innovation title, innovator information/innovators, innovation description and related information) – to download the form Click here
- he application undergoes initial review by the office before filing with the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property. This includes searching previous inventions, verifying invention ownership, and ensuring compliance with registration requirements.
- The innovator is informed of the initial review results to complete any observations if found. If the innovation meets registration criteria, the application is filed with the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property.
- If the application passes formal requirements and receives preliminary acceptance from the Intellectual Property Authority, it is presented to the specialized committee. Upon approval, a filing reward is disbursed to the innovator.
- The office directly follows up on the application progress with the Authority until the final decision is issued.
- The innovator is notified of the final decision regarding the registration of the innovation ownership.
- The innovator receives a reward for obtaining the innovation protection document for the patent according to the university's Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Regulations.
- The innovation can be registered with intellectual property protection entities in one or more other geographical areas that the office deems important to register in, following recommendation from the Intellectual Property Committee. The innovator completes the required forms with office assistance.
